For your TEYL lesson plan, select any topic you wish that is appropriate for a class of five- and six-year-old students.
Please note: TEYL classes are usually 30-45 minutes long. Build your lesson in that time span. No individual segment or activity of the lesson should be longer than eight minutes.
Recall that the expected attention span of a young learner is thought to be about twice his/her age minus two. So for this lesson: 5 years old x 2 equals 10 minutes, and that 10 minutes minus 2 equals 8 minutes. Teachers with highly active students often reduce the time for each activity to equal the age of the student(s). Five-year-old kids equal five-minute activities.
